Help an American hero Donate in Edmonds Nov. 10-14 to train service dogs for veterans with PTSD

Edmonds, WALocal News

Edmonds American Legion Post 66 will accept donations from Nov. 10-14 at Wilcox Construction to support Northwest Battle Buddies, a nonprofit dedicated to training service dogs for veterans suffering from PTSD. Each service dog costs $25,000 to train, but veterans receive them at no charge, thanks to donations. Tom Smith, an organizer from Post 66, highlighted the transformative effects of service dogs, noting, “These dogs have saved marriages. ” Donations of $50 can fund one day of training, while $100 supplies essential items for a service dog.

Since its inception in 2012, Northwest Battle Buddies has trained and matched 300 dogs with veterans. The dogs help veterans manage anxiety and social isolation linked to PTSD, providing companionship and security. Smith urged community members to contribute, stating, “Every dollar raised today brings us closer to helping another veteran in need. ” This initiative underscores the local commitment to supporting veterans and honoring their service.
