Lynnwood champion off-roader returns to compete for another potential title

Edmonds, WALocal News

Carey Lando of Lynnwood prepares to compete in the Rebelle Rally, an eight-day off-road challenge specifically for women. She and her teammate, Andrea Shaffer, will drive a factory-sponsored 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid, relying solely on traditional navigation methods. Founded by Emily Miller, the Rebelle Rally seeks to empower women in motorsports by providing a challenging yet accessible competition. Lando described the event as physically and mentally demanding, noting that many men question their ability to endure it. Other local competitors include Kelli Diann Gordon and Joy Culley, who are also making their rookie debut in the rally.

The event emphasizes the spirit of collaboration between driver and navigator, as participants camp in the desert after long days of navigation. The competition reflects a growing movement to include more women in motorsports. Footage of the event can be found on the Rebelle Rally's YouTube page, showcasing the dedication of these female athletes.
