Commentary Homage will continue to advocate for older adults amid federal budget discussions

Edmonds, WALocal News

Homage will officially relocate its headquarters from Lynnwood to Everett this summer, continuing essential services like Meals on Wheels with limited disruption. Support from community partners such as the Edmonds Food Bank has been instrumental during this transition, allowing for ongoing service delivery. Despite stable funding, Homage expresses concern over potential cuts to federal programs that support older adults, particularly as discussions in Washington, D. C. evolve.

The Department of Health and Human Services has proposed a flat funding level of $1. 059 billion for the Older Americans Act Nutrition Program, which does not meet the growing needs of the aging population. Homage serves around 25,000 individuals each year, emphasizing the critical need for community support. The organization advocates for investment in the health and dignity of older adults, framing it as a community responsibility rather than charity. As the demand for services continues to rise, Homage urges the community to stand together in support of older adults and those with disabilities.
