Some Puppy Yoga Classes Too Cute To Be True And Are Using Mill, Breeder Dogs, Rescue Says
One Tail at a Time, a nonprofit animal rescue, has raised concerns regarding puppy yoga classes in Chicago that may use dogs sourced from puppy mills. The Puppy Yoga Club Chicago has been cited for operating without a business license and failing to display its animal care license. Investigations revealed that the studio connects participants with breeders, prompting scrutiny from animal welfare advocates. In Chicago, legislation prohibits pet stores from selling dogs sourced from for-profit breeders, highlighting the city's commitment to animal welfare. Co-founder Ryan Rouche maintains that all puppies are healthy and well-cared for, asserting the studio's goal is to help find homes for the puppies.
The city’s investigation also indicated that the puppies come from two local puppy mills, one of which has been listed in the Humane Society's “Horrible 100 Puppy Mill Report. ” Puppy Yoga Club has expressed willingness to review their breeder relationships while facing pressure to comply with city regulations. The studio continues to expand its classes, which combine yoga and puppy playtime for $69 per session.
