Ridge Avenue Reopening After Months-Long Closure, But Work Begins On Clark Street, Ashland

Chicago, ILLocal News

Ridge Avenue will soon reopen after a months-long closure for a major sewer main replacement project costing $8 million, which affects nearly 90% of eligible homeowners. The project aims to mitigate flooding issues and is set to be completed in early September. Meanwhile, Clark Street is undergoing construction to install a protected bike lane and improve pedestrian crossings, with the entire project expected to finish by October. Granville Avenue has transitioned to one-way blocks, with new safety measures like contraflow bike lanes to reduce accidents, as it experiences significantly higher traffic compared to other residential streets. Data collection on traffic patterns is already underway to assess the effectiveness of these changes.

Ald. Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth highlighted the importance of a data-driven approach to justify the modifications. The city aims to improve safety for both pedestrians and cyclists amidst ongoing traffic disruptions. These infrastructure projects reflect a broader commitment to enhancing urban mobility and safety in Edgewater.
