Mayor Michelle Wu to Visit Nova Scotia to Highlight Continued Partnership

Boston, MALocal News

Mayor Michelle Wu will visit Nova Scotia from November 9 to 12 to reinforce the longstanding partnership between Boston and Nova Scotia, which dates back to the 1917 Halifax Harbor explosion. As part of her itinerary, Wu will be the first Boston Mayor to participate in the Tree for Boston tree cutting ceremony, where Nova Scotia gifts a Christmas tree to Boston annually. She plans to tour the Port Innovation, Engagement and Research (PIER) and the Health Innovation Hub, meeting with local officials to foster economic collaboration. Wu remarked, “I’m honored this year to visit our neighbors to the north for the first time. ” The visit underscores the diplomatic relationship between Boston and Halifax, which has flourished over the past century.

Wu will also exchange gifts with Halifax Mayor Andy Filmore, reinforcing this bond. The public can join the celebration of this year’s Christmas tree arrival at Boston Common on November 18. This year's tree, a 45-foot-tall white spruce from Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia, symbolizes the ongoing goodwill between the two cities.
