Lynden Heritage Museum suffers minimal damage following interior fire

Bellingham, WALocal News

A small fire erupted at the Lynden Heritage Museum on Friday evening, resulting in minimal damage estimated at $3,000. The fire was ignited by a malfunctioning paper shredder in an office room on the east side of the building. Although the sprinkler system did not activate, the fire detection system successfully alerted first responders, who contained the fire within 20 minutes. Smoke and soot permeated the building, necessitating extensive cleanup. The museum has closed its doors until Wednesday to facilitate this process.

The Lynden Chamber of Commerce is rallying community support by encouraging donations via the museum's website. This incident highlights the importance of fire safety systems in public spaces. Local residents are reminded of the museum's role in preserving community heritage and culture.
