Repaving on I-5 to cause overnight slowdowns, commercial filming on SR 542 to close both lanes

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) announced overnight lane closures on I-5 SB near Ferndale starting Wednesday, Nov. 12. Crews will close the right lane between Portal Way and the Nooksack River from 8 p. m. until 6 a.

m. Thursday, followed by the left lane closure between the SR 543 truck route exit and the Nooksack River Bridge on Thursday night. These closures are part of the final phase of a 10-mile repaving project from Blaine to Ferndale, which aims to improve road conditions for drivers. In addition to the I-5 work, rolling slowdowns will occur on Mount Baker Highway (SR 542) due to commercial filming from 1 a. m.

to 4 p. m. Tuesday through Thursday. Everson Road (SR 544) will also experience daily lane closures from 9 a. m.

to 2 p. m. for maintenance, impacting traffic on the Nooksack Bridge. Local officials emphasize the importance of these projects for enhancing safety and infrastructure. Commuters should plan for delays and adjust their travel times accordingly.

As these projects conclude, smoother travel is anticipated for residents and visitors alike.
