Auburn Police Officer Cook awarded Medal of Life-Saving Recognition

Auburn, WALocal News

Auburn Police Officer Cook received the Medal of Life-Saving Recognition for his exemplary response to a gunshot victim on September 8, 2024. Responding to an illegal discharge call, he arrived within 90 seconds and found an adult male with multiple gunshot wounds. Cook applied chest seals to control the bleeding and provided continuous verbal support, stabilizing the victim until medics arrived. Chief of Police Mark Caillier commended Cook for his professionalism, stating that his actions were crucial to the victim's survival. The victim was treated at Harborview Medical Center and later discharged, with medics indicating he likely would have died without Cook's intervention.

The department highlighted this incident as an example of the dedication its officers show daily. Cook’s actions came to light only after a detective reviewed the incident for a related criminal case. His recognition underscores the importance of quick response in critical situations.
