Auburn hosting three Memorial Day Events honoring fallen heroes

The City of Auburn will host three Memorial Day events on May 27, 2024, to honor those who sacrificed their lives for the nation. The first ceremony begins at 10 a. m. at Mountain View Cemetery, a venue with a long history of remembrance and ongoing expansion. The American Legion Post #78 will organize the next event at 11 a.

m. at Veterans Memorial Park, a site known for its annual Remembrance Ceremony preceding Veterans Day. The final observance takes place at 12:30 p. m. at the Vietnam War Memorial in Les Gove Park, led by the American-Vietnamese War Memorial Alliance, which promotes awareness of the Vietnam War's legacy.

Mayor Nancy Backus encourages residents to attend these events to show respect for fallen heroes. The American-Vietnamese War Memorial Alliance is dedicated to preserving the memories of Vietnam veterans and their contributions. A 26-year-old man from Auburn was arrested following a high-speed chase that spanned Kent and SeaTac. The pursuit ended with a PIT maneuver and spike strips after the suspect's vehicle was linked to an earlier incident involving a gun. Police later discovered a homemade pipe bomb in the car.
