14-year-old Burien boy arrested in stolen Auburn car with two 12-year-old passengers
Last week, a 14-year-old boy from Burien led Kent Police on a brief pursuit in a stolen Hyundai Elantra, prompting his arrest. Officer Jones initiated the chase after spotting the vehicle reported stolen from Auburn around 9:30 p. m. The teen drove erratically, nearly colliding with a patrol car, before stopping due to a smoking tire. He later told police that he noticed the brakes failing, which led him to surrender.
Two 12-year-old girls, passengers in the vehicle, were released to family members after the incident. Kent Police stated that the pursuit serves as a critical lesson for the young driver and his companions. The boy was booked into the King County Juvenile Detention Center for possession of a stolen vehicle and attempting to elude police. The incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding youth involvement in vehicle thefts and reckless driving.
