Auburn Symphony Orchestra swings into 4th year with Link Up program

Auburn, WALocal News

The Auburn Symphony Orchestra recently celebrated its fourth year of the Link Up program, bringing together fourth graders from the Auburn School District for an interactive musical experience. Under the direction of conductor Wesley Schulz, the performance introduced students to swing music, blending jazz and orchestral elements. The jazz sextet played a pivotal role in teaching students about swing rhythms and improvisation, enhancing their understanding of the genre. Students were equipped with recorders to play along, while others chose to sing with vocalist Johnaye Kendrick, creating a lively atmosphere. Schulz highlighted the program's goal of connecting young audiences with professional musicians, fostering a lasting passion for music.

The performance also marked the culmination of students' year-long efforts in music class, reinforcing their learning through live engagement. Schulz noted that the experience could inspire students to pursue musical instruments or simply appreciate music throughout their lives. As the Auburn Symphony Orchestra continues to host this program annually, it remains committed to enriching the community's cultural landscape.
