Officer Cox of the Auburn Police Department was awarded the Lifesaving Medal on February 19, 2025, for his exceptional response during a drug overdose emergency. The incident occurred on January 15, 2025, at the Ray of Hope Shelter, where an adult male was found unconscious and not breathing. Officer Cox arrived promptly and took over lifesaving efforts from an individual performing chest compressions. He administered an additional dose of Narcan and continued CPR, ultimately detecting a pulse. His quick thinking and calm demeanor were crucial in stabilizing the patient until Valley Regional Fire Authority personnel arrived.

The fire crews confirmed that the man had regained consciousness and would likely have died without Officer Cox's intervention. Police Chief Mark Caillier praised Officer Cox for his professionalism and competence, highlighting the importance of training in emergency situations. This incident underscores the vital role of first responders in saving lives during critical emergencies.
