Auburn man charged in 2024 homicide following months-long investigation

Auburn, WALocal News

An Auburn man has been charged with second-degree murder and unlawful possession of a firearm related to the September 2024 shooting death of Travis J. Jones, an innocent bystander. The King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office found probable cause based on a detailed report from the Auburn Police Department, which conducted a months-long investigation. Jones was shot near the intersection of 41st Street SE and A Street SE, where he was found unresponsive with a single gunshot wound. Investigators recovered crucial evidence, including shell casings and bullet fragments, which led to the identification of a suspect vehicle—a stolen white Toyota Highlander.

The suspect, a documented gang member, was linked to the crime through surveillance footage and text messages that suggested prior knowledge of the shooting. He was arrested on February 5, 2025, and is currently being held in King County Jail on a $2 million bail. Law enforcement officials have raised concerns about the potential danger the suspect poses if released. This case highlights the ongoing issues of gun violence and public safety within the Auburn community.
