Auburn Police release more details on March 13 carjacking pursuit

Auburn Police have shared new details surrounding a carjacking event from March 13, 2024, which led to a police chase and the arrest of two suspects aged 17 and 23. The incident began at around 9:30 p. m. when officers were called to the MultiCare Auburn Medical Center regarding the theft of a black 2021 Toyota Highlander. Utilizing the victim's stolen phone and the vehicle's GPS, Officer Bentz was able to track the car to a nearby Metro Park and Ride and subsequently to the Silver Shadow apartments.

A pursuit was initiated after Officer Nguyen spotted the vehicle leaving the apartment complex, which ended in a collision with Officer Kemp's patrol car. The suspects then abandoned the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot, with two captured shortly thereafter. A handgun was found in the vehicle, and both arrested suspects were booked into jail. The victim positively identified the two apprehended suspects, while a third suspect remains at large. The police department aims to highlight the diligent work of the involved officers during this incident.
