Auburn Police Officer involved in fatal shooting during traffic stop early Wednesday

An Auburn Police officer was involved in a fatal shooting incident during a traffic stop on January 15, 2025, at approximately 1:58 a. m. The incident unfolded in the 100 block of 6th Street SE, where the officer witnessed a heated altercation between the driver—who was a male—and a female passenger. As tensions escalated, a firearm was displayed, prompting the officer to discharge his weapon. Tragically, the male driver was pronounced dead at the scene, while the officer involved was reported to be unharmed.

The Valley Independent Investigation Team (VIIT) has been notified and is currently leading the investigation into the incident, with Federal Way taking on the role of lead agency. Notably, the Office of Independent Investigations (OII) has chosen not to respond to the situation. As the investigation progresses, authorities are encouraging anyone with information related to the incident to come forward and assist. This event raises significant concerns regarding public safety and police conduct, reflecting ongoing discussions about law enforcement practices in the community.
