Auburn Food Banks Harvest Breakfast donations soar to nearly 167,000 as need grows

Auburn, WALocal News

The Auburn Food Bank set a new fundraising record of nearly $167,000 during its recent Harvest Breakfast, driven by an unprecedented demand for food assistance. Staff initially feared they would struggle to meet the needs of the growing number of clients. A significant boost came from longtime supporter Nixie Van Selus, whose family committed a $40,000 matching gift shortly before her passing. This challenge inspired donors to contribute over $92,000, helping the food bank surpass its previous breakfast totals. Auburn School District Superintendent Dr.

Alan Spicciati's message to "Be generous, not judgmental" may have further encouraged giving. After the total was announced, another donor stepped forward with an $18,000 check, elevating the total raised. As the holiday season approaches, the food bank highlighted various community events to support its mission. Volunteer opportunities for Thanksgiving and Christmas Basket Giveaways also remain available for those looking to assist.
