Discovering the artist behind the Auburn Hearts

Auburn, WALocal News

Since 2015, local artist Jakobi has spread joy through approximately 1,000 painted hearts across Auburn, Washington, aiming to brighten people's days. The initials "JAW," inscribed on the hearts, signify his studio, Jakobi ArtWorks, and reveal his identity as the artist behind this guerilla street art. Mayor Nancy Backus praised the hearts, noting their uplifting effect on the community. Jakobi has evolved his design process, moving from clay to concrete for efficiency and introducing new variations like flat painted hearts and Washington State designs. He utilizes leftover materials creatively, ensuring minimal waste.

His current heart designs have become popular, especially in downtown Auburn and along the Interurban Trail. Jakobi's innovative approach has led to plans for additional designs, including a doughnut and a state puzzle piece with Oregon. This ongoing artistic endeavor reflects both local culture and community engagement.
