ASDs Classified Employee of the Year Kelly Schaper

The Auburn School District Board of Directors awarded Kelly Schaper and Jeff Grose the title of Classified Employees of the Year, with Schaper recognized for her impactful role as a one-on-one para-educator in the Pathways program. This program supports students facing emotional, social, and behavioral challenges at designated schools, including Lea Hill Elementary, Rainier Middle School, and Auburn Mountainview High School. Schaper has been with the district since 2006 and currently coordinates services for ten students and two teachers at Rainier Middle School. Teacher Kat Sherer praised Schaper, stating she is “the glue that holds the Pathways program together. ” Schaper highlights the significance of building trust with students who have encountered trauma, ensuring they feel safe and supported.

Her responsibilities also include supervising events and acting as the district’s Right Response instructor, where she teaches staff effective de-escalation techniques. Schaper's dedication to her students and community involvement, including soliciting donations for families, exemplifies her commitment to education. She aims to create a positive impact in students' lives, helping them achieve goals they once thought impossible.
