Teen charged in 2024 Auburn park shooting that sent two to hospital

An Auburn teenager, Guillermo Sanchez-Romero, has been charged with multiple felonies after a shooting at Isaac Evans Park left two people injured and many others in danger. The shooting occurred on May 19, 2024, during a crowded birthday party, when Sanchez-Romero allegedly fired approximately 30 rounds from a . 223-caliber firearm. The chaos triggered panic among parkgoers, including children, as bullets struck vehicles and individuals. Prosecutors raised concerns about community safety and the defendant's flight risk, resulting in a bail set at $1 million.

Sanchez-Romero, who has prior felony convictions, also faces unrelated charges of third-degree rape in juvenile court. Investigators connected him to the incident through witness statements, surveillance footage, and physical evidence found near the scene. A key witness identified him in a photo lineup, noting his distinct stare during the shooting. The case may involve additional suspects, including a woman who allegedly aided in the drive-by shooting.
