New Westminster man found guilty of 2023 assault on woman, killing cat

Ryan Jensen, a 34-year-old from New Westminster, was found guilty of five charges, including aggravated assault, after a woman reported being violently attacked on October 6, 2023. The victim, who had numerous lacerations, alerted an officer on Royal Avenue around 7 a. m. Police responded promptly, arresting Jensen shortly after at a location identified by the victim. She was transported to the hospital due to the severity of her injuries.

In addition to the assault charges, Jensen was charged with assault with a weapon and two counts of breaching a release order. Authorities also discovered a deceased cat in the suite where the incident occurred, leading to a charge for killing or injuring an animal. Jensen's case highlights issues of domestic violence and animal cruelty, raising community concerns. He is set to return to court for sentencing on Monday.
