New travel-related measles case found in the Lower Mainland
Fraser Health confirmed a travel-related measles case in the Lower Mainland involving a traveler from Ontario who visited Vancouver and Chilliwack on April 20. Exposure may have occurred on Air Canada Flight AC2105, Vancouver International Airport's domestic arrivals area, the Chilliwack Coliseum, and the Coast Chilliwack Hotel. Measles is known for its high infectiousness, transmitted through the air, prompting health officials to issue warnings. Symptoms can appear up to three weeks after exposure, including fever, cough, and a rash that spreads rapidly. Most Canadians possess immunity due to vaccinations or prior infections, reducing the risk of widespread outbreaks.
Fraser Health encourages individuals who may have been exposed to monitor symptoms closely. Those showing signs should remain at home and reach out to Fraser Health Public Health for advice. Free vaccinations are available to bolster community immunity against the virus.
