A tragic hiking accident claimed the life of a 17-year-old near Bastion Mountain, British Columbia, on Monday. The teen, hiking with friends, reportedly strayed from the group and fell near the cliff's edge. Search and rescue teams found him unresponsive, confirming his death at the scene. The Salmon Arm RCMP indicated he likely slipped and fell about 200 feet. "This is another tragic event that will greatly affect our community," remarked Sgt.

Simon Scott, expressing condolences to those affected. The BC Coroners Service has initiated its own investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fall. The Bastion Mountain trail spans nearly 19 kilometers with a significant elevation gain of 580 meters, attracting many hikers.
