Vancouver getting Professional Womens Hockey League team
Vancouver will soon welcome a new team in the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL), marking the league's expansion to the West Coast. Officials from the B. C. government and the City of Vancouver confirmed the development at a press conference. The team is expected to be based at the Pacific Coliseum, previously home to the NHL's Vancouver Canucks.
Seattle is also rumored to be getting a team, potentially creating a regional rivalry down the I-5. The PWHL has been assessing various markets for expansion, capitalizing on Vancouver's large market and thriving girls' hockey community. A PWHL game held in Vancouver in January sold out, attracting over 19,000 fans, highlighting local interest in women's hockey. The league currently features six teams, with playoffs set to commence in May. This expansion aims to spread the game across North America, balancing the league's representation between the East and West.
