Longtime Vancouver broadcaster Dianne Newman dies at 69

Dianne Newman, a beloved figure in Vancouver's broadcasting community, died at 69 on April 1. Her 19-year tenure at CKWX included 15 years of reading morning and midday reports, playing a crucial role in the station's transition to an all-news format in 1996. Newman began her career at Mountain FM, later working at Vancouver's 1040 KICKS station, where she honed her skills as a broadcaster. For the past 13 years, she narrated for Descriptive Video Works, offering vital descriptions for the visually impaired. Her commitment to her craft earned her the reputation of being a “shining light and a mentor” among colleagues.

According to her obituary, she passed away with “peace, dignity, and grace. ” A celebration of her life will take place in June, allowing friends and family to honor her legacy. Newman's contributions to the media landscape will be remembered by many.
