Vancouver, BCLocal News

A large fire erupted in a commercial building in Surrey's Guildford Mall area on Friday morning, leading to a robust response from emergency services. Twenty-two fire trucks and 52 firefighters were dispatched to the scene shortly after 8:30 a. m. , as reported by Surrey Fire Services Assistant Deputy Chief Rich Bodnark. The blaze has significantly affected several businesses, including a learning center, a cellular unit repair shop, and a health clinic.

Bodnark noted that fire suppression efforts are ongoing, with both aerial and internal methods being employed to combat the flames. Unfortunately, one person at the scene suffered significant burns and was transported to the hospital for treatment. Parts of the building's roof have collapsed, complicating firefighting efforts. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and authorities are advising drivers to avoid the area due to road closures. This incident highlights the urgent need for safety measures in commercial areas and the potential for devastating impacts on local businesses.
