Surrey suspect charged after 3 alleged sex assaults on SkyTrains
Metro Vancouver Transit Police have arrested a 55-year-old man from Surrey, charging him with three counts of sexual assault connected to incidents on SkyTrain services from January to May 2024. The first reported incident occurred on January 25, when a woman reported inappropriate physical contact by a man on a crowded Canada Line train. Witnesses further identified the suspect on April 11, when he was seen leaning suspiciously close to a teenage passenger on another Canada Line train. The final incident, reported on May 9, involved a woman who felt someone pressing into her multiple times on a packed Expo Line train. Upon investigation, police linked all three assaults to the same suspect, highlighting the urgency of addressing safety concerns on public transit.
The man is currently out on bail with conditions that include a ban on using public transit. Authorities have urged the public to report any crimes witnessed on transit to ensure community safety. The police's proactive approach reflects growing concerns over safety in public spaces and underscores the importance of vigilance among commuters.
