Burnaby RCMP report Metrotown raid resulting in 22 arrests

The Burnaby RCMP successfully executed a two-day operation, 'Boost and Bust,' resulting in the arrest of 22 individuals and the seizure of various illegal items at Metropolis at Metrotown. Conducted on March 13 and 14, the operation involved both uniformed and undercover officers conducting foot patrols in the busy shopping area. Among those arrested was a 30-year-old man who possessed a hunting knife, break-in tools, drugs, and stolen merchandise, highlighting the diverse nature of retail crime. The RCMP issued a reminder that carrying bear spray for self-defense is illegal, warning that such actions could lead to assault charges. In addition to the arrests, four individuals were taken in for breaching court-ordered conditions, and a violent offender wanted in another jurisdiction was also apprehended.

The total value of stolen goods seized exceeded $2,800, underscoring the scale of retail theft challenges in the area. This operation reflects the ongoing commitment of local law enforcement to address retail crime and enhance public safety.
