Southeast False Creek Paddling Centre City of Vancouver
The Southeast False Creek Paddling Centre, a $3. 2-million facility inaugurated in April 2016, enhances Vancouver's recreational landscape for non-motorized boating. It features six storage buildings and floating docks designed to improve accessibility for users. The centre's architecture draws inspiration from floating lanterns, utilizing semi-translucent panels for a visually appealing effect at night. Operated by the Canadian International Dragon Boat Festival Society and British Columbia Mobility Opportunities Society, it offers community programs, including summer camps for children.
Before its establishment, paddlers relied on temporary facilities at the Creekside Community Recreation Centre. The paddling centre aligns with the Vancouver Park Board's commitment to providing quality recreational services. This project represents a key milestone in the city's long-term planning for enhanced recreational infrastructure. The facility not only serves the paddling community but also symbolizes the city's dedication to sustainability and accessibility.
