Good things are in the works City invests in Hastings-Sunrise neighbourhood

Vancouver, BCLocal News

The City of Vancouver is making significant investments in its neighbourhoods through the Uplifting Communities Fund, which received a $6 million boost in July 2024. Hastings-Sunrise is the first area to benefit, with a $2 million allocation dedicated to improving sidewalks, painting poles, and upgrading litter bins. Mayor Ken Sim underscores the importance of these enhancements, particularly the Kamloops-Hastings Neighbourhood Plaza, which serves as a community hub. Construction for a permanent plaza will commence this spring at a cost of $3. 2 million, funded by the 2023-26 Capital Plan and the Province of British Columbia's Growing Communities Fund.

The new plaza will feature a flexible design for various events, built-in seating, greenery, and electrical upgrades for community activities. A temporary plaza will ensure residents have access to a gathering space during construction. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to create vibrant public spaces across Vancouver, tailored to meet the unique needs of different neighbourhoods. The collaboration with local partners further emphasizes the city's commitment to community engagement and enhancement.
