Cockroaches, mould, flooding East Van mother shares BC housing horror story

Vancouver, BCLocal News

Sarah Perrin, a disabled single mother residing in a BC Housing unit, endures significant hardships related to cockroach infestations, mould, and flooding. She reported that her family's health has deteriorated, with chronic fatigue and dizziness affecting her children. Inspired by another local mother's story, Perrin decided to come forward about her distressing living conditions. While BC Housing confirmed the presence of cockroaches, they claimed no activity was found during their last pest control inspection. Perrin described her home as unsafe, citing concerns over asbestos flooring, flooding, and malfunctioning fire alarms.

She expressed frustration with BC Housing's lack of response to her requests for assistance, stating they often dismiss her calls. Perrin urged Minister of Housing Christine Boyle to experience her struggle firsthand for a month. The ongoing ordeal highlights systemic issues faced by low-income families in subsidized housing.
