Whistler Blackcomb Resort opens first ski run of the season

Vancouver, BCLocal News

Whistler Blackcomb Resort opened its ski season with the Wishbone run on Blackcomb Mountain. Senior Patrol Manager Adam Mercer warned skiers of potential hazards outside the ski area, including natural and manmade obstacles. As only one run is currently operational, the resort anticipates congestion on the slopes and encourages visitors to exercise caution and courtesy. COO Belinda Trembath remains hopeful about expanding terrain access next week, aiming to enhance the skiing experience. The resort will celebrate its 60th anniversary in January 2026, with planned festivities including a parade and fire and ice show.

Trembath emphasized the importance of this milestone for the community and the resort's legacy. Meanwhile, Cypress and Grouse mountains expect to open next Friday, while Mount Seymour aims for a December 12 opening. This early season activity marks a gradual return to winter sports in the region.
