Alberta and Ottawa are reportedly nearing an agreement on a new pipeline to B. C. 's North Coast, following a report by The Globe and Mail. B. C.

Minister of Jobs and Economic Growth Ravi Kahlon expressed surprise, stating the province has not been consulted on the discussions. He criticized the focus on a hypothetical project, arguing it distracts from ongoing initiatives in B. C. The Alberta government committed $14 million last month to regulatory work aimed at attracting a proponent and engaging First Nations in ownership. Federal Liberal MPs indicated that any alterations to the northern tanker ban would require formal consent from B.

C. and First Nations. Jonathan Wilkinson, a B. C. Liberal MP, highlighted the necessity of significant support before any changes could occur.

Alberta's premier's office confirmed they are in the final stages of talks with Ottawa and will provide updates soon. The developments underscore the ongoing tensions between provincial and federal positions on energy infrastructure.
