Vancouver, BCLocal News

Shortly after 9 p. m. on October 30, the West Vancouver Police Department recorded a white Chrysler 300C speeding at 194 km/hr on Highway 1. Officers attempted to pull over the driver, but he fled northbound on Highway 99. Due to safety concerns, the police did not pursue the vehicle and instead coordinated with the BC Highway Patrol and Squamish RCMP.

Officers later deployed a spike belt, successfully bringing the car to a stop. The driver was arrested for impaired driving and faces a 10-month roadside prohibition along with two recommended charges. WVPD spokesperson Suzanne Birch highlighted the need for accountability for reckless driving. The police are actively seeking witnesses and dashcam footage to further their investigation. Such high-speed incidents pose significant risks to public safety, prompting law enforcement to take stringent measures against offenders.
