B.C. health workers reach tentative four-year deal with employers
The Facilities Bargaining Association has reached a tentative four-year agreement for over 67,000 health-care workers in British Columbia's hospitals and long-term care facilities. Under the new contract, members will receive a three-percent wage increase each year, alongside enhanced shift premiums, leaves, and allowances. The agreement also expands occupational safety measures and introduces new supports for Indigenous workers. Workplace diversity and work-life balance initiatives form a significant part of the deal. Additionally, the B.
C. Finance Ministry confirmed that the contract includes low-wage redress for those affected by a 15-percent wage cut imposed by the former provincial government in 2004. Union members will participate in an online ratification vote scheduled between December 15 and 19. Lead negotiator Lynn Bueckert stated that the tentative deal secures wage improvements necessary to attract and retain essential health care workers. This agreement marks a critical step in addressing long-standing wage concerns within the sector.
