Will B.C. benefit from Quebecs doctor exodus?

Vancouver, BCLocal News

Quebec's Bill 2 is prompting a doctor exodus, with Ontario seeing over 250 applications from Quebec physicians for medical licenses. British Columbia is struggling to attract these doctors due to high living costs and the need for improved working conditions, as highlighted by Dr. Charlene Lui of Doctors of BC. She stresses that retaining current physicians is just as crucial as recruitment efforts. The province is also working to enhance training capacity for new medical professionals.

B. C. is actively recruiting U. S. doctors, having launched a campaign in June that garnered over 1,800 applications from qualified health professionals.

More than 174 healthcare workers have accepted job offers through this initiative. The College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia reported five applicants from Quebec in October. As B. C. implements a new doctor pay model, it aims to attract family physicians and link them with patients.
