Squamish base jumper rescued after crashing into mountain wall

Vancouver, BCLocal News

A base jumper who crashed into a mountain wall was rescued by the Squamish Search and Rescue (SSR) team on Tuesday evening. The individual jumped from Mount Slhanay, located east of Squamish, and fell 60 feet before being located on a small rock feature. The SSR requested helicopter support from North Shore Rescue due to the steep and rough terrain, which complicated a stretcher carry. Spokesperson Christy Allen noted that the jumper was cold and wet but conscious upon rescue. The team executed a hoist extraction, significantly reducing the time needed for recovery.

The jumper sustained injuries to both ankles but was reported to be doing well. Following the rescue, he was transported to Squamish General Hospital for treatment. Officials emphasize the necessity of being prepared for winter conditions as the days grow shorter and colder in the mountains.
