Burnaby boys disappearance still brings more questions than answers over one month on

Vancouver, BCLocal News

An 11-year-old boy named Kai Pavlovic has been missing in Burnaby for over a month, with the Burnaby RCMP confirming a welfare check request on September 26. Despite ongoing searches and public appeals, including billboards, police have not been able to locate him and believe he may be with an unidentified caregiver. Authorities have opted against issuing an Amber Alert, stating that such measures are reserved for confirmed abduction cases where the child is in imminent danger. Kai's aunt, living in New Zealand, expressed the family's heartbreak and concern, noting their loss of contact since his relocation to British Columbia in 2023. Private investigator Steve Hoffman emphasized the need for clarity regarding the welfare check and the caregiver's identity, questioning the involvement of Kai's parents and the community.

He highlighted that there are legal avenues for police to track individuals who may not want to be found. Hoffman remains confident that the Mounties are diligently working to resolve the case, which has left the community anxious. Kai is described as 5 feet tall with a thin build and brown hair, and police have shared several photos to aid in identification.
