The Snuneymuxw First Nation plans to acquire the River Rock Casino Resort and Chances Maple Ridge in British Columbia, aiming to become the largest Indigenous gaming operator in Canada through its wholly-owned Petroglyph Development Group. The deal remains subject to regulatory and other approvals. Earlier this year, Petroglyph also acquired Casino Nanaimo and Elements Casino Victoria. Chief Mike Wyse noted that these acquisitions are pivotal for the nation’s economic self-determination and will lead to enduring prosperity. The Musqueam Nation, which owns the River Rock location, expressed satisfaction with the in-principle agreement to partner with Snuneymuxw.

Chief Wayne Sparrow emphasized that this collaboration exemplifies Indigenous nations working together for mutual benefit. The partnership is anticipated to generate additional jobs and opportunities for community members. This move aligns with broader trends in Indigenous economic development across Canada.
