B.C. man charged in 1997 Ontario serial sexual assaults following DNA breakthrough
Jason Timothy Davidson, 52, was arrested by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) for his alleged role in four violent sexual assaults that took place in 1997. The assaults targeted four females, including three youths, across southwestern Ontario, with incidents occurring in Sarnia, Lambton County, and Kent County. Using advancements in DNA technology and investigative genetic genealogy, police were able to link all four cases to Davidson in January 2024. He has been charged with 15 offenses, including aggravated sexual assault and kidnapping, and remains in custody. Davidson was apprehended on October 26, 2025, with assistance from the RCMP and Vancouver Police.
OPP Detective Inspector Michael Moore emphasized the victims' courage in coming forward after nearly three decades of waiting for justice. The police are seeking further information and have released photos of Davidson from 1996 and 2025. This case highlights the effectiveness of modern forensic techniques in solving long-standing cold cases.
