BC Ferries cancels some Vancouver Island sailings amid high winds

BC Ferries cancelled multiple sailings from Tsawwassen Terminal to Vancouver Island on Friday morning due to severe weather conditions, including high winds and rain in the Strait of Georgia. Environment and Climate Change Canada issued special weather statements warning of hazardous conditions. Cancelled sailings include departures at 8:00 a. m. , 10:00 a.

m. , and 12:45 p. m. from Tsawwassen, along with several from Swartz Bay. Sheila Reynolds, a senior communications advisor for BC Ferries, stated that it’s a "wait and see situation" and emphasized the company's commitment to safety.

Meteorologist Michael Kuss predicts conditions will worsen before noon. Passengers with reservations are being contacted directly and offered refunds or alternate sailings. BC Ferries continuously monitors weather conditions to determine the safety of its operations.
