Historic Vancouver movie theatre to close this weekend

Vancouver, BCLocal News

The Park Theatre in Vancouver will permanently close on October 26, 2025, ending its 84-year run in the community. Cineplex spokesperson Alannah O’Farrell confirmed the decision, announcing that the last film will be "One Battler After Another," featuring an ensemble cast including Leonardo DiCaprio and Sean Penn. Opened in 1941, the theatre is known for its historic neon sign and has served as a cultural hub in Cambie Village. Cineplex has been leasing the theatre since March 2013 after acquiring the Odeon chain in 1983. Ticket holders for the remaining shows will receive a free small popcorn, subject to certain rules.

The 70 mm projector will be removed, with its future destination yet to be determined. There are unconfirmed reports that the Rio Theatre is considering taking over the Park Theatre after Cineplex exits. This closure reflects ongoing changes in the local entertainment landscape, highlighting the challenges faced by historic venues.
