Charges laid against former BC Correctional Officer

Vancouver, BCLocal News

The Coquitlam RCMP announced charges against Ramandeep Rai, a former correctional officer at the North Fraser Pretrial Centre, on October 15, 2025. The BC Prosecution Service approved two counts of breach of trust following an investigation that began in September 2022. The first alleged offense occurred between July 14 and September 29, 2022, with the second offense occurring later that same month. The investigation, which declined to provide further details, is unrelated to the escape of high-profile fugitive Rabih “Robby” Alkhalil, who fled the facility in July 2022. Alkhalil was apprehended in Qatar in September 2025.

The Coquitlam RCMP's focus on maintaining trust within the correctional system underscores the importance of accountability for public safety. 1130 NewsRadio has reached out to the Ministry of Public Safety for further clarification on the case. The local community remains attentive to developments, given the implications for the oversight of correctional facilities.
