17-gun salute welcomes Colombian ship near North Vancouver
The ARC Gloria, a flagship of the Colombian Navy, visited North Vancouver on Wednesday, where it received a ceremonial 17-gun salute around 9:30 a. m. The RCMP reassured residents that the loud noises were part of the welcoming ceremony and posed no threat. This 57-year-old training vessel for cadets acts as a “floating ambassador” for Colombia, emphasizing its role in promoting cultural and economic exchanges. The Lower Lonsdale Business Improvement Area Society announced that the public can tour the ship for free until Saturday, encouraging local engagement.
North Vancouver is the only Canadian stop on the vessel's tour, designed to highlight Colombia’s rich cultural heritage. Colombia’s official tourism website promotes this visit as a unique opportunity for Canadians to explore the nation’s exports. This event reflects the strengthening ties between Colombia and Canada, enhancing mutual understanding. The ARC Gloria's visit is expected to bolster local tourism and interest in Colombian culture.
