Park Board approves paid parking at key sites as part of new parking strategy
Vancouver's Park Board approved a one-year pilot program for paid parking at Hillcrest, Kerrisdale, and Trout Lake community centres, scheduled to commence in 2026. Park Board Chair Laura Christensen emphasized that the program addresses rising parking demand while allowing for necessary maintenance funding. Community centre patrons can enjoy the first three hours of parking free, with a rate of $3. 50 per hour thereafter. The pilot also extends to Langara Golf Course and VanDusen Botanical Garden during select periods next year.
Developed in consultation with Community Centre Associations, the Park Board Parking Strategy includes exemptions for staff, volunteers, and members of local Indigenous nations. Data shows that paid lots generally offer better accessibility and user experience. This initiative aims to alleviate congestion and improve traffic safety in high-demand areas. The Park Board currently manages 180 parking lots across Vancouver, with paid parking already in place at over a dozen locations.
