Seven obstetrician gynecologists resign from hospital in B.C. Interior

Vancouver, BCLocal News

Seven obstetrician gynecologists resigned from their in-hospital privileges at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops, B. C. , due to safety concerns related to workload changes and recruitment difficulties. Dr. Mark Masterson of Interior Health assured the public that obstetric and gynecology services will remain available despite the loss of the entire department.

The doctors' letter expressed devastation over the situation, citing a lack of support for women's health at the provincial level. They will continue to provide outpatient gynecology care and work with Interior Health and the College of Physicians and Surgeons to ensure compliance with professional standards. Masterson noted that a transition plan is in development to maintain services and communication with patients regarding any changes. He emphasized that Royal Inland Hospital remains operational and is committed to patient care. Patients on surgical waitlists will be directly contacted to discuss their next steps.

The situation reflects ongoing challenges in health care staffing and support in the region.
