Domestic terminal at YVR evacuated due to strong gas smell

Vancouver International Airport (YVR) evacuated its domestic terminal Wednesday afternoon due to a reported strong gas smell. Emergency responders, including the RCMP and fire rescue crews, quickly arrived to assess the situation. YVR spokesperson Chloe Reynaud stated the airport remains operational and urged passengers to check with their airlines prior to arriving. Many travelers were left waiting outside without their luggage, worried they might miss their flights. Geoff Wong, a shuttle bus driver, reported that hundreds of individuals evacuated from the terminal.

The evacuation affected all levels of the domestic airport, as officials prioritized safety. At around 2:30 p. m. , Reynaud confirmed that responders believed they had identified the source of the issue. The situation highlights the airport's commitment to passenger safety during emergencies.
