A shooting in Surrey critically injured a 26-year-old international student early Sunday morning, prompting an investigation by the Surrey Police Service. Officers responded to reports of shots fired at a residence on 103A Avenue just after 2:30 a. m. and found the victim receiving medical attention for a gunshot wound. Her partner described hearing gunshots shortly after they had said goodnight, while neighbors reported seeing a dark vehicle fleeing the scene.

The building is student housing, accommodating around 20 residents. Police are investigating the incident for possible links to extortion and are appealing for witnesses or anyone with relevant footage to come forward. The Major Crime Section of the SPS is actively pursuing leads to connect this shooting to other ongoing investigations.
