8-year-old Victoria boy takes first steps with help of robotic legs
Eight-year-old Elliot Burns from Victoria, diagnosed with quadriplegic cerebral palsy, has taken his first steps with the assistance of a robotic mobility device. His mother, Genevieve Parent, lamented the limitations of traditional mobility aids, which she described as cumbersome and heavy. The turning point came when Parent learned about a robotic walker from Trexo Robotics, prompting her to connect with the designer. “We held hands and danced,” she recalled, highlighting Elliot's excitement during the experience. Parent launched a crowdfunding campaign through Support Now, which has successfully raised enough funds to lease the device for a year.
This achievement marks the beginning of a transformative journey for Elliot, allowing him to explore the world more freely. The device not only enhances mobility but also fosters a sense of joy and curiosity in Elliot. With continued support, Parent hopes these first steps are just the beginning of many for her son.
