Historical sex offence investigation results in arrest, says New West PD

Vancouver, BCLocal News

New Westminster Police arrested 58-year-old Ronald Veit on multiple charges related to historical sexual assault allegations, with incidents reported to have occurred from 2008 to 2012 across several municipalities. The charges against him include sexual interference, sexual exploitation, and sexual assault, but the allegations remain unproven as the matter is before the courts. In an effort to support victims, police are working with the Victim Assistance Unit. Sergeant Andrew Leaver highlighted the challenges victims face in reporting such incidents and reassured the public of the seriousness with which these cases are treated. Veit has been released under strict conditions, including prohibitions against possessing weapons and volunteering with minors, while still being allowed to coach hockey at skating rinks with adult supervision.

The investigation remains active, and authorities encourage anyone with information to reach out to the New Westminster Police Major Crime Unit. This case underscores the importance of addressing historical sexual assault allegations and providing support to victims. The charges reflect ongoing efforts to hold offenders accountable for past actions.
